Spy Cameras are usually not what I use to do Street Photography or any other kind of photography. But since the technique is advancing fast and I am always interested in new technology gadgets, I wanted to give these spy cams a shot.
Normally, Spy Cameras aren’t really within the realm of cameras that I normally use and review like the best point and shoot cameras under $300, but out of personal interest, I was curious in seeing how modern technology works and where the real-life applications of technology are, that I helped to advance.
So this overview is mostly out of personal interest working for an electronics company that would produce prototype circuit boards (PCBs) – those green plates that are inside every electronic product. We also produced flexible PCBs that would later be used in glasses or other small electronic products. Those are also referred to as “wearables”. Since we only produced the PCBs and didn’t manufacture the final product, I was interested in seeing how the finished products looked like.

Everyone of us probably uses some kind of charger all the time. Whether we are charging our phone or our camera batteries. So having a charger in the wall isn’t very out of the usual. On the plug, there are some lights that indicate if the charger is running or not. If You feel that the lights might be an unwanted source of attention, You can turn every light off. This allows You to record the video also in darker scenarios.
It doesn’t matter in what orientation You plug the device in Your power outlet. The image gets corrected automatically. This prevents You from making any mistake when plugging the spy cam in Your power outlet.
When the storage is full, the recording doesn’t stop but does overwrite the earliest recordings. This way, You always keep the newest recordings.
Of Course, You can also use the USB-ports to charge any electronic device. While doing so, You can use both of the charging ports at the same time.
What could have been improved
One of the big upsides of the USB plug is, that it doesn’t have any batteries and doesn’t have any limitation when it comes to the energy. On the other hand, this means that the USB charger needs to be plugged in, to be able to record. It doesn’t have any batteries and when unplugged cannot record any video or audio. This limits the flexibility of the charger and means that You should use a power outlet that has a good overview of the room. Otherwise, You will not be able to see what is going on, if the power outlet is next to a bulky closet that does limit its view.
When used in rooms, it would have been nice if the camera would have a night vision. Since the light situation is not always the best and in case You want to record some unwanted intruders during the night, the camera will only be able to deliver audio or some very dark picture.
Conclusion
When it comes to hidden cams, this is one of the best design choices. Having a USB charger is nothing special and nobody would ever think, that this little device is able to record high-quality video and audio.
Since the camera is plugged to the power outlet, You can let the device stay there forever and it will never run out of energy.
To see the video, You can connect the camera to Your WiFi and use Your mobile device to stream the live feed. You can go out of town and the plugged spy cam will give You a secure overview of Your home.
Plus, You can actually use this camera as a charger and use both ports at the same time. You can never have enough chargers anyway, so why not decide for one that also keeps Your home secure?

When we think about Spy Cameras, we have some very small devices in our mind that can be put anywhere. One of those cameras is the Titathink Hidden Spy Cam. This camera is as small as a Quarter Dollar and can be put anywhere, thanks to its flexible design.
The camera records in 720p quality at 30 fps, which means that the camera is very capable of delivering crystal sharp video quality. To deliver this image, the camera is connected to a back device. The cable of the device is more than 6 meters long, so You should find plenty of opportunities to find a well-hidden place for the back device within a radius of 6 meters.
The host unit is as big as a small powerbank and needs to be physically connected to the camera. Keep that in mind when finding a place for the camera.

One of the strong features of the Titathink is the high-quality camera that lets You record video and pictures in 720p HD. Whether You want to capture a snapshot of the surroundings or want to have a good quality video, the camera is able to deliver pictures that will let You identify any intruder without a problem.
The camera is at the end of a flexible cable. This lets You put the camera in very different spots. This also means that the camera and device could land up in a dead spot of the WiFi very easily. To overcome this problem, the device uses a powerful antenna that enhances the signal.
Do You not only want to monitor the movement through the motion, but also have a gas detector, or audio alarm? Then You can plug these devices into the host unit of the camera. Once one of the devices will be triggered, the camera will be triggered as well. This way, You can connect different security devices to trigger the camera.
Apart from this special feature which should appeal to every security fanatic, the camera does employ the usual features that one expect from a professional spy cam. The camera can be triggered via audio, has a storage of up to 128 GB with a Micro SD-Card and You can connect Your mobile device to have control over the device and see the live feed.
What could have been improved
The camera does employ great technology. While the camera is very small and can be hidden very easily, the host unit is on the bigger side of things. It is as big as a small powerbank and can be difficult to hide. From the design, the host unit could also be a WiFi router, which can help You to conceal the true intention of this device. But if the host unit gets spotted, the cable will look very conspicuous.
If You are trying to record during the night, the standard Titahink won’t have any night vision. There is a model out there though that does include night vision abilities.
Conclusion
Are You searching for professional quality in Your spy camera and have a good place to hide the host unit? Then the Titathink is a great camera that is smaller than a Quarter Dollar. Connected through a flexible cable to the host unit, You can combine different alarm devices to trigger the camera.
This makes the camera ideal if You are working in a place that is prone to different hazards. In addition to that, it is a great little camera that can be placed virtually anywhere. The Magendara Mini WiFi Camera is a pretty forward spy camera that doesn’t hide that it is a camera. Nonetheless, it is so small that You can easily hide it if You want to.
This Spy Camera functions wirelessly and doesn’t need to be plugged in. Over the Titathink IP Hidden Camera that is a clear advantage as it can be placed more easily in places to hide it. Though, the cable shouldn’t be folded and holds a lot of the electronics, that are used to keep this camera going.
You can control the camera with an App for Your mobile device and be able to catch the live feed.
If You need a small camera that is capable of recording sharp 1080p videos, the Magendara Spy Cam may be one of the best choices for You. Followed are some of the stronger points, as well as a critical review.
What’s good
The manufacturer claims that this camera is the smallest available spy camera out there that You can get. While it is true that the camera is very compact, it is not really verifiable, if it is the smallest one.
Due to its very small size, it is very easy to conceal this camera. You can put it in another electronic device and have the camera look out, or put it at any place where it can be hidden easily.

The design decision of having no plug has its upsides, but also its downsides. One very obvious downside is, that the camera runs via a battery.
So when putting the camera anywhere to record possible movements in a room, the camera should be fully charged. For this reason, the camera is not really suitable to monitor a room while You are on vacation.
The risk is, that the camera will detect some minor movement and starts recording, although no real intruder can be detected. This will drain the battery power and could eventually lead to the power running out, while You have no access to swap the batteries.
Conclusion
Do You need a flexible camera that can be hidden in many places is small and has a very high-quality camera?
The Magendara camera is one of the smallest spy cameras that is available for purchasing and can help to monitor a room at a specific time without a problem. Connectable through WiFi and inhibiting a motion detector sensor, the camera will only record, if there is any movement going on. This will save some of the precious battery life.
Up to four users can access the camera simultaneously, which should help You out tremendously if You are observing a shared place and want to inform Your family, or co-workers about anything suspicious that might be going on.

So far, every hidden camera that I presented was rather conservative in their style. While the USB-charger was a bit extraordinary, it isn’t a real rocket science to put a small camera in a USB-Charger.
Now I want to come close to something that we would expect from any James Bond movie, or real-life spies. The Aipinvip is a camera that sits inside the camera bracelet. What appears to be a normal digital watch, is a camera in disguise.
With smartwatches becoming more popular, a camera in a bracelet might not be overwhelmingly surprising, but looking at the specs lets this camera stand out.
It can record in 1080p video resolution, which makes it one of the highest quality cameras out there.
Apart from the great camera, what else does this camera have to offer?
What’s good
I like the flexibility of this camera the most. Most other cameras have the disadvantage, that they have to be placed before You want to record something suspicious.
With this bracelet, You can wear it like a normal watch and either record while walking, or simply leave the bracelet at a spot, to record some illegal activity, or gain insights in something, that wouldn’t be possible any other way.
The camera is very suitable in low-light, which is a must-have if You want to record inside. Once the low-light recording was successful, the bracelet will vibrate slightly.
One concern with such a small device would be that the energy provided by the battery would fall short. But giving us around 120 minutes of time, the battery is pretty powerful and should be enough for our needs.
You can connect to the bracelet via iOS or Android to see the livestream in case that You left the bracelet behind, to gather some footage.
What could be better
To work with such a high-technology device, a comprehensive but easy to understand manual would be helpful. Unfortunately, this is an area where the Aipinvip does fall short tremendously.
It takes some time to set-up the device the way You want it to work and needs some tweaks. So if You need a camera that works instantly, the bracelet might not be the easiest choice to get into.
As with all devices that run via battery, You should always make sure that the battery is fully charged when planning to use this bracelet.
Apart from these minor obstructions, the bracelet works better than expected.
Conclusion
James Bond would be proud of this small camera that is hidden in this bracelet/digital watch.
Once You get past the unintuitive manual and have installed and connected the bracelet successfully, You can enjoy recording Your surroundings without raising any suspicions.
You do not have to wear the camera to record and can take it off Your wrist while You are sitting somewhere and place it on a table for example. This allows You to get closer to Your target and get every angle possible.

A digital clock is one of the best places to hide a camera. It does already have a display, is dark most of the time and inside the box is enough space to hide a very powerful clock.
This must have been also the conclusion by DareTang and therefore they put their very own spy camera in a digital clock.
Their idea of a spy camera consists of a 1080p camera that is also able to record during the night. If You want to record one of Your rooms and it could also need a new sweet digital clock, then this spy camera is worth a look.
What’s good
The camera is very flexible in its power consumption. While it can be run using 2000mA rechargeable batteries, You can also plug the digital watch and allow it to run it without any worries about the power.
If I had to name one feature that makes this camera outstanding, it is the fact that You can use it during the night. This camera has an IR light built-in, that is invisible to the eye but allows the camera to record during the night. The quality might not be crystal clear during the night, but at least You are able to record and see what is going on, even though it is invisible to the human eye.
Other features include the motion sensor which can be set to send notifications to Your Smartphone when it detects some movement and that You can watch the video, while still recording.
What could be better
The camera does work very well and customers are regarding the quality of this spy cam very highly overall.
However, there is one small thing that might have been done better. That is the capacity of 64 GB, which could have been easily increased to 128 GB.
While the quality of the video is top-notch, the audio quality is a little underwhelming. When there are loud noises present, the sound doesn’t work very well and could have been a feature to improve.
Conclusion
The DareTang digital clock camera is a very capable camera, that is ideal for You if You want to monitor a single room. You can set the clock, plug it in and let it record if it detects any movement.
Because of its night vision capabilities, it works great as a baby monitor and will only start recording, if the baby is moving.
If You need more flexibility, You can also unplug the clock and put it elsewhere. Equipped with a 2000 mA rechargeable battery, it will only start recording once it detects stronger movements, which will save You some power.

It can be driven by motion detection, or You can use it via Your Android or iOS device. The 32 GB of storage can save up to 5 hours of video before this spy cam does start recording in loop mode. However, the USB Spy camera can handle Micro SD-Cards up until 128 GB which is a great plus.
Via WiFi, You can connect to the device and can control it. This is great if You are on vacation and just want to check if there wasn’t an intruder in the house and everything is alright.
What’s good
The Spy Camera by Alpha Tech can be controlled via Your Smartphone. Simply download the App for free and either with Android or with Your iOS device You can check if everything is alright at home.
Are You concerned if the nanny is doing a good job and Your kid is in good hands? Simply use the App and connect to the livestream of the camera. Without a doubt, You will be given answers to the questions if the nanny is doing a good job.
Or are You staying out of the country for a while? With the motion detector, the USB Spy camera can be put near strategic places and will go off if a movement is detected. When the camera notices some suspicious activities, You will be notified and can check Yourself if You want to call someone to check on Your property.

What could be better

Therefore, the camera does work very well as a nanny cam or when the light conditions are better, but if You are concerned that there will be some unwanted activity during the night, the camera doesn’t work very well and can only provide sound that is usable for You.
The same problem does exist for the Alpha Tech USB plug. It simply isn’t very flexible and You can not wear it and record video while You are moving for example. The device is bound to the power outlet and is only good as a stationary camera.
Conclusion
The USB Spy Camera by Alpha Tech can record in 1080p and make use of a 128 GB Micro-SD Card. That is a lot of storage to use if You want to check Your house or the nanny.
It gives You the opportunity to the house with Your Smartphone and makes You enjoy the vacation without having any doubts in Your mind that there might be anything wrong.

Now we are entering the realms of spy movies and who hasn’t dreamed about having a camera inside a small pen at one point? Pens have been used for various things in movies, they were weapons, or able to record audio amongst other great features.
Today, we aren’t living in a movie, but we can use a pen as a spy cam. The pen by FabQuality can store up to 32 GB. It does support 1080p, however, it is just at a full resolution of 1280*1080 which is kind of an odd resolution in today’s standard.
To use the pen, simply start recording Yourself, or let the motion sensor detect any movement and record by itself. No additional software is needed and then, of course, the pen can also be used to write some notes down.
What’s good
I like Spy cameras that serve more than one function. The pen can be fully used for writing and when needed, can also be used to record video and audio. It doesn’t get any more undercover and the camera is so small that nobody would ever think that there might a camera hidden in a pen.
Furthermore, the pen is rather inexpensive. If You think that those small devices must cost multiple hundreds of US-Dollar then You are far off with that estimation. Those devices go for a lot less than 100 US-Dollar while providing excellent quality.
The good thing about the pen by FabQuality is how easy it is usable. Start recording the video via one button and later plug the pen into Your computer and have a look at the video. There is no need for additional software to edit the video. Timestamps can be added automatically.
FabQuality does offer the pen in a very extensive bundle. You not only get the pen, but also the Micro SD-Card, a card reader, USB plug and a refill ink. With this bundle, You don’t have to get any other gear and are able to record Your hidden videos right away.
What could be better
With a pen of a size that small, there are some negative points that You should consider.
While the manufacturer does praise the 1080p capability, it doesn’t stand for the usual HD-Definition but rather a resolution of 1280x1080p. This resolution isn’t used very often and reviewing the footage on Your 16:9 monitor, You shouldn’t be surprised that a lot of the screen isn’t used.
A little bit confusing can also be the swap between the video and photo mode. Since there are two modes available and You cannot connect Your mobile phone with the pen to control its settings, You have to use the buttons on the pen. So before recording anything, make sure You are in the right mode.

Not all spy cameras have to be super hidden and need to be flexible. Sometimes, You just need a high-quality camera that records the front entrance of Your house or is good to check on Your employees.
The Phylink Pinhole Spy Camera is a great combination of high-quality while being very compact and easy to hide. The camera is attached via a 6-meter long cable and the master device is as big as a small router. So when using the camera, make sure that You have a reasonable place to put the master device.
If You need a good stationary camera that You can connect to Your smartphone, the Phylink has great opportunities for You.
What’s good
Installing this spy camera isn’t as difficult as it may sound to be. It is no plug and play by any means, but setting the camera up is not rocket science and should be done within a few minutes if You know what You are doing.
The cable length of 6 meters gives You plenty of room to put the hidden device somewhere in the room. If You find no suitable place for the device, You can also argue that it is just a WiFi router as it does look like one.
You can connect this camera to Your smartphone via the free iOS or Android app or You can use the free software on Your PC to review the footage.
All in all, this spy camera is one of the best when it comes to rather stationary solutions.
What Could be better
One downside of this camera is that it doesn’t have an integrated battery power. While the camera is not really designed to use batteries anyway, in case there is a power outage, the camera won’t be recording any footage. A simple backup battery would have been nice just to overcome situations where there is no power available for a short period.
Unlike most other hidden cameras, this version has no integrated audio recording feature. However, it does have a mic jack and lets You connect a microphone. This lets You record audio, but it would have been nice if the audio recording feature would already be integrated into the camera device.
The camera doesn’t have any night vision feature, nor does it operate very well in mediocre light conditions. Before putting this camera to use, make sure that the light is sufficient for good video recordings.
Conclusion
The Phylink camera is a good device when You want to record some video footage in bright daylight. It doesn’t work so well under rough light conditions and You should make sure that the video quality is good enough for Your needs.
Therefore, I would recommend this hidden camera, if You want to monitor regular situations. For example, if You want to check in on Your employees, or if You want to record other people during the day or in bright rooms.
Without integrated audio, make sure to buy some external microphone to be able to record audio as well.

Overview
When the first Google Glasses were released, there was a pretty big buzz about it. Now, these following Spy Glasses aren’t from Google, but from a manufacturer that is called very similar “Gogloo”.
These are very straightforward glasses with a built-in 10 MP camera that lets You record a video while You are wearing these glasses. The camera is hidden very well and isn’t noticeable or anything, so You shouldn’t worry that anybody would suspect that these are spy glasses.
The glasses itself also look very modern. Calling them very fashionable might be an overstatement, but they definitely don’t raise conscious and just look like regular glasses.
What’s good
In contrast to a lot of other spy cameras, the great thing about the glasses is, that You can use it absolutely hands-free. You can work or do whatever and record Your own point of view with these glasses. Instead of having to carry a small pen, or another gadget, which is difficult to control, You can just wear these glasses and record whenever You please.
Unlike other glasses, or what You might expect from a wearable camera like this, the glasses are really comfortable and don’t get annoying. They were designed by a Swedish designer and the glasses fulfill more functions than just working as a spy cam.
The lens is removable which means that You can use a different lens for these glasses. Built-in is a 10 Megapixels wide-angle camera and lens combination that lets You record a wide-angle of 110°. With this lens, You get a great point of view, than Your eyes are able to see, so You actually enhance Your field of view.
The small battery can be powered on for about 90 minutes which is an impressive time, considering that it has to function in such a small frame.
What Could be better
I don’t like the idea of controlling the glasses with my hands and having to touch the frame to start and stop the recording. While it is great that You can record and change the perspective without having to use Your hands, controlling the record function via the buttons negates this positive feature a bit.
The camera is directly on the top of the nose-piece and it may take some time for You to get used to this unique perspective of the camera. You don’t have any option to review the video very quickly, there will be a phase of trial-and-error involved and the first will probably turn out very badly. However, once You are getting used to the camera and its angle, it works very well.
Conclusion
The Spy Glasses are a great option if You want to record while You are just walking or passing by. I wouldn’t say that using them as spy gear was the first thing that came to my mind.
Rather than using them as a spy tool, I believe these glasses are very well designed as action cameras. They can replace a GoPro very well. They are water-proof and can withstand a little splash of water or other rougher conditions.
So if You are skiing and want to record Your super fast downhill speed, You can use these glasses and the advantage is, that You don’t need any other gear.
Of course, the glasses have a UV protection filter and for that reason work very well for winter sports.

With the motion sensor, the frame only starts recording when it detects some movement. This will save some battery life and the camera will only go off when there is suspicious movement.
Although the camera itself with a resolution of 720p might not be the best, at night the camera does excel.
What Could be better
The camera is hidden very well and the chance that anyone will notice the camera is very slim. On the other hand, people tend to take a closer look at pictures and having the camera on the front-side may not be the best solution. Use the photo frame at Your own risk and maybe place the photo frame in a way that people wouldn’t take a closer look in the first place. For example, You could use a very uninteresting image, or place the frame at the end of Your desk where no one would be leaning over, just to take a closer look.
Another thing that could have been improved is the camera quality. A resolution of 720p isn’t really bad, but it would have been nice if the camera could record at 1080p already.
Conclusion
The photo frame works very well when You are searching for a power independent solution. The raw battery life of up to 2 years is really great and will give You a very secure feeling when You are traveling or simply not at home.
Of all the spy cameras that were presented in this guide, the night vision of the photo frame is one of the best. The black LEDs are invisible to the human eye, but at night they support the lens and provide enough light, that makes the recording at night pleasant.
