2New York Street Photography in the 70s & 80s
The 70s and 80s were must have been the El Dorado for Street Photographers in New York City. After “Everybody Street” and countless other short clips about this city in this time frame here is an article showing the work of 12 New Yorker Street Photographers during the rise of the Hip Hop Culture to clashes with the police.
“Why are people so interested in New York during the 70s and 80s? “I think people are nostalgic for the small, family shops and restaurants that often anchored a neighborhood and gave it its special flavor,” iconic photographer Martha Cooper shares with us. “There were few chains like Starbucks, 7-Eleven or McDonald’s that are now on every other corner with the same architecture as in any city.”
3The Red Army’s Forgotten Photographer
“He took the defining photo of the U.S.S.R.’s victory over Nazi Germany, although many of his photographs were heavily doctored or staged for Soviet propaganda purposes. But instead of accolades from communist authorities, Yevgeny Khaldei — born 100 years ago this month — struggled to remain employed as anti-Semitism swept through the Soviet Union.”
448 Hours on Clapham High Street – in pictures
by Jim Grover
“It is much like all the high streets across the UK,” says photographer Jim Grover. ‘A traditional part of everyday British life with all the features we’d expect: a post office, hairdressers, pubs and familiar chains such as Sainsbury’s, Superdrug, Boots, Oddbins and McDonald’s. But as I have immersed myself in this project, I have discovered an unusual street where some very different worlds are seeking to coexist”
524 Hour Project
If you are interested in doing a similar project like Jon Glover and his 48 hours project, there is an event coming up that shows 24 hours of life around the world on April 1st. The 24HourProject started in 2012 with 65 participants that wanted to show one special day throughout the globe. In 2016 nearly 3.000 photographers registered to be part of this short lived community and 2017 is on its path to include even more Street Photographers.
About
The 24HourProject gathers street and documentary photographers from around the globe to share in real time as they document the human condition of their city. Photographers share one photo per hour during twenty four hours.
We are all about Documenting Humanity to Make a Difference and for this we are creating partnerships with NGOs to raise awareness and empower their initiatives.
6Loneliness of Tokyo
Although Tokyo is a city of million people, loneliness is becoming more and more prevalent in these mega metropolis. People are becoming more isolated from their neighbours, communities seem to vanish and are replaced by online friends.
Julie Hrudova focuses on these lonely individuals of Tokyo in her photo series which she also published in video form on Youtube
7The Fujifilm X-Pro2 for Street Photography
Fujifilm recently released the X100F, the X-Pro2 and the GFX 50S. While the latter is a medium format heavyweight, the former are more suitable for Street Photography. The X100F seems to be the new favorit for a lot of Street Photographers around the world and replaces the previous X100 camera. With a fixed focal length of 35mm and no interchangeable lenses it is more limited in general, but specialized for Street Photography.
The X-Pro2 on the other hand is a very well suited allrounder. Spyros Papaspyropoulos took the camera to the field test and gave an overall rating of 8.9 out of 10 possible points. Read his full in-depth review over on Streethunters.net and maybe the X-Pro2 will be your next choice of camera?
