Travel Photography can include all types of photography genres. Whether it be landscape, wildlife or Street Photography. A lot of times great Street Photographers started out as tourists in foreign cities that tried to learn more about the different culture. They took back home great photos about locations all around the globe, making contact with locals and presenting the different lifestyles.

The Guardian’s 2016 Reader’s Travel Photography Winners

The Guardian features one picture every month, that was contributed by a reader and not a professional. Nonetheless the quality of these pictures is amazing. Since it is the end of the year, The Guardian displays these 12 pictures in one article.

Curated by Mick Ryan

Travel Photographer Mick Ryan curated this collection and included pictures that also fit in the Street Photography genre.

A sculptor in Kolkata carefully inspects his finished work.

“MICK RYAN, JUDGE: A wonderful, atmospheric glimpse of a man making clay heads. Although his surroundings are busy with decorations and tools, the pastel colour palette and subtle lighting evoke feelings of calm and mystery.”

Another very atmospheric photo has been captured by Jill Sett in a little backstreet of Sicily.

Guardian's Travel Photography Competition

“MICK RYAN, JUDGE:Wandering around when travelling, especially off the beaten track, is a way to get a real feel for a place. Take a camera and you observe and enjoy more. Good street photography is hard, especially in daylight. When the sun sets and the lights are turned down you are hidden and less self-conscious. Use a high ISO and hand hold, and you may get something like this moment, where there is mystery and tension.”
